Have you ever had to share your email address with a company to use their services? With so many apps and services, it's easy to fill your inbox with unwanted marketing emails and spam. Apple's new Hide my email add-on is here to help you deal with such situations. You can create and use a custom email address on your iPhone.
Before you go ahead and start creating a custom email address on iPhone, let us remind you that the Hide My Email feature is only available to subscribers. iCloud+You need to pay for at least the entry-level iCloud plan to enjoy the benefits.
The feature is also available on iOS 15 or later. Apple released the latest version of iOS 15 for all compatible iPhone models on September 20.
If you're still stuck on iOS 14, it's time to upgrade to iOS 15 from Settings > General > Software Update menu.
Where is hide my email located on iPhone?
The Hide Email menu is hidden within the Settings app. Here's how to access it.
Step 1: Open the Settings app on the iPhone.
Step 2: Tap your profile and go to iCloud.
Step 3: Open Hide My Email, and you'll see all the email addresses you created using the Sign in with Apple feature during signup.
How to create a custom email address on iPhone
From the same Hide My Email menu, you can create a new email address. This feature helps you keep your personal email address private by generating unique, random addresses that forward to your inbox and can be deleted at any time.
Step 1: Open your iPhone Settings and go to your profile.
Step 2: Go to iCloud and open the Hide Email menu.
Step 3: Click Create New Address.
Step 4: The operating system will generate a random email address for you to use. You'll need to name your address so you can remember the purpose for which you created the email and even add a note to it.
If you find the email address too complicated, you can always click Use a different address and create a different email address in Hide my email.
Step 5: Name your email and add a note.
Step 6: Click the Next button at the top.
Step 7: Apple will take a minute or two to create a new email address for you. Tap Done, and you're good to go.
That's it. You've successfully created a custom email address on your iPhone. Copy it and use it wherever you want.
Stop sending email to your main inbox
The spam emails you created with were set to Sign in with Apple Hide my email list to redirect them to your main email inbox. However, you can easily change this behavior if you feel you're receiving too many emails from them. Here's how.
Step 1: Open the Settings app.
Step 2: Go to Profile > iCloud > Hide my email menu.
Step 3: Select the email ID from which you want to stop emails to your primary email inbox.
Step 4: Disable the “Forwarding” switch and you will not receive any new emails from the created custom email ID.
Delete custom email addresses
Power users will appreciate the ability to generate random email addresses on the fly. You could end up creating dozens of these addresses in a short time. Once your purpose is served, you can always disable/remove the custom email address from your Hide My Email list.
Follow the following steps.
Step 1: Open your iPhone Settings and go to Account > iCloud menu.
Step 2: Select Hide my email and scroll down to the email label. Unfortunately, there's no search button to quickly navigate to the generated email address.
Step 3: Click on the relevant email label.
Step 4: Click Deactivate Email Address and confirm your decision.
The created email address will stop receiving emails sent to that address. You can reactivate it from the Inactive Addresses section.
