How to disable read receipts on Facebook Messenger
It's nice to be able to respond to messages on Facebook Messenger at your convenience, but if the other person sees you've read the message, you can't help but feel pressured to respond right away. If you've disabled read receipts on Messenger and the other person doesn't know you've read their message, you're in trouble! Here's how.
Disable read receipts on Facebook Messenger (PC)
If you're reading Messenger messages through the Facebook website, you can use an extension called “Social Tools"On Chrome.
Once you've installed the extension, click its icon to see all the options available to you. As you can see, it does much more than just disable read receipts in Messenger—it does the same for Instagram and Facebook, too!
To block read receipts in Messenger, simply tap the gray slider. "Send ban" Visible to others within Messenger. While in Messenger, you can also block the typing indicator that lets people know when you're typing, as well as your active status.
Firefox has exactly the same extension, which is Social Tools , which performs the task in exactly the same way.
Disable read receipts on Facebook Messenger (Android)
If you have Messenger notifications turned on (you can check this under App Info), you can read your Facebook messages by swiping down from the top of your device's screen. It doesn't matter if the message is short or long, you'll still be able to read it. Reading it this way doesn't reveal that you've read the message.
Another way to do this is to go to the Messenger app when you're offline, read the message, and then mark it as unread. To mark it as unread, "unread" On it, press and hold the conversation in your Messenger inbox, tap the three lines icon, and then tap Mark as unread.
