Prepare Flight mode A useful feature, but it can also cause its own headache if accidentally activated. This phone feature disconnects your cellular service, meaning you won't be able to receive SMS messages, phone calls, or use mobile data. It will also disconnect you from Wi-Fi and GPS. In this article, we'll show you how to turn off Airplane Mode automatically on iOS.
If you have relatives or children who constantly turn on Airplane Mode, causing you to miss important calls and texts, or making it harder to reach your loved ones, there are two solutions to help you.
Set up an automation for airplane mode
Step 1: Open an app Shortcuts On your iPhone. If you remove it, you can download it again.
Step 2: Open the Shortcuts app, and tap the Automation button at the bottom center of the screen.
Step 3: Click on “Create a Personal Automation” and scroll down to Airplane Mode.
Step 4: Select the "On" option. This will trigger the automation when Airplane mode is activated.
Step 6: Click Set Airplane Mode to see this screen.
Step 7: You'll be returned to the Actions tab, which is the automation script. Click the word "On" to toggle it to "Off."
It should read something like “Turn off airplane mode.”
Step 8: Click "Next" to save your new automation. You'll be taken to a new screen detailing all the steps taken. Our automation is:
“When Airplane mode is on….. Set Airplane mode to [off]”
Toggle the "Ask before launching" option. Your screen should look like this before you move on to the next step.
Step 9: Click Next in the upper right corner, and we're done creating our new automation. Let's test it to make sure it works properly. Exit Shortcuts and turn on Airplane mode.
If your program is working properly when you turn on Airplane mode, you will receive a notification that your automation is running (see image below), and Airplane mode will be turned off.
You'll know Airplane mode is off when the airplane icon disappears from the taskbar. In the image below, the screenshot above shows Airplane mode turned on. The image below shows Airplane mode turned off.
Troubleshooting Airplane Mode Automation
The flight code is still there.
If you notice the airplane icon is still there after turning on Airplane mode, it means that the automation didn't work properly. When you turn on Airplane mode, you'll see a Shortcuts notification, and if you do, your automation is active but not running.
Shortcuts ask for your permission to run an automation, and this prevents the automation from running until you allow it.
Step 1: This means you'll need to open your Shortcuts app, tap the Automation tab, and find Airplane Mode Automation.
Step 2: Make sure to turn off the question before running.
If this feature is enabled, you'll have to approve the automation every time you turn on Airplane mode. This is a great safeguard against your phone running unwanted automations, but it will prevent you from automatically turning off Airplane mode.
How to turn off automation
If you're traveling or want to put your phone in airplane mode to save battery power, this auto-activation will prevent you from turning on airplane mode for more than a second.

Step 2: At the top of the automation, there's a toggle next to "Enable this automation." Click the button to turn the automation off. You can turn it back on whenever you want.
