When conversations are important, you don't want to miss any messages. Thanks to the latest Android update, you can prioritize conversations directly from the notification shade. This option has been available on most Android phones, but it's still one of the lesser-known features. What are priority conversations?
Priority conversations are notifications from texting or messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, and others that, when enabled, will appear first in your Android notification shade. The option was first introduced with Android 11 and has also made its way to Android 12.
Android notifications on devices running these versions of Android come with 3 settings attached to them:
- silent – This is the lowest priority setting. It silences any sound or vibration for notifications when enabled, whether they come from a texting app or any other app.
- hypothetical – This setting displays notifications from chat apps in order of arrival, while also turning on the default sound or vibration.
- priority Notifications from chat apps set to Priority will appear first in the Notification Center above all other apps, in a separate section. They will also ignore any restrictive settings like Do Not Disturb mode. So even if your phone is in DND mode, important notifications (with sound alerts) will still arrive.
Although the dial is small, it gives you greater control over all the notifications you receive. If you're flooded with app notifications every day, make sure you don't miss important messages.
