YouTube remains the preferred video streaming service for most users. Due to a recent server-side change, you may be having difficulty finding the option to change YouTube video quality. Here's how to change YouTube video quality on mobile and the web.
After the latest update, YouTube has hidden the ability to change video quality under the advanced menu. It's a simple change, but it can be frustrating for average consumers to find the option they're looking for. This will help you save on data, but if you're already working with unlimited data, you shouldn't have to deal with 480p or 720p (HD) video quality in the first place.
We'll start with the YouTube mobile apps and then move to the YouTube website to change the video quality.
YOUTUBE APP FOR ANDROID AND IPHONE
By setting the default video quality to 480p or 720p, YouTube avoids unnecessary stress on its servers. A single device may not make a significant difference, but when you factor in millions of devices, it has a significant impact on YouTube's servers.
As a consumer, you don't have to worry about that. You can easily watch your favorite creator in 4K using the advanced options menu. Here's how.
The steps below apply to: YouTube for iPhone, iPad, and AndroidYou get the same user interface everywhere. For reference, here's how to change video quality on the YouTube app for iPhone.
Step 1: Open an app YouTube on iPhone.
Step 2: running Video clip.
Step 3: Click on Three point list above.
Step 4: Locate the quality.
You have four options to choose from.
- automatic: This is the default setting and will adjust the video quality to give you the best experience for your situation.
- Higher image quality: This will increase video quality at the expense of more data.
- Data Provider: This will reduce video quality and save data in the process. This is recommended when working on tight data plans.
- advanced: This option will allow you to select a specific resolution for the video to be streamed on mobile.
Step 5: Click on advanced.
Step 6: Locate 1440p Or 2160p You will quickly see more clarity in the video resolution.
Anything higher than 1440p is overkill for mobile use. If the uploaded video supports 60 frames per second for a specific resolution, such as 1080p, you should choose that over a higher resolution with a lower frame rate. You'll notice a better, smoother video playback experience on your phone.
YOUTUBE on the web
YouTube hasn't messed around with the web version yet. That means the ability to change video quality on the web remains the same as before.
Step 1: Visit Youtube On the web and start playing a video.
Step 2: By default, YouTube picks up streaming quality based on your internet speed at home or office.
However, your internet speed is more capable than YouTube thinks and can play the video at a higher resolution.
For example, whenever we tried to stream a video at 100 Mbps over our office Wi-Fi, YouTube started streaming the video in Full HD. The Wi-Fi network could stream video perfectly at 1440p (QHD) or 2160p (4K).
Step 3: Click Settings gear At the bottom.
Step 4: Locate the quality.
Step 5: Select Play Video Above from the list, and you're good to go with clearer video quality.
Change video quality preferences
You don't have to choose your video quality every time you open YouTube. You can adjust your video quality preferences from the Settings menu. Here's how.
Step 1: Open an app YouTube On iPhone or Android.
Step 2: press menu identification file above.
Step 3: go to the Settings and select Video Quality Preferences.
Step 4: Select Mobile Networks or Wi-Fi.
Step 5: Click on Higher Image Quality and close the menu.
Enjoy YouTube videos in high definition.
Watching videos in higher resolution on an HD-enabled phone, monitor, or TV is a pleasure. Use the solutions above to upgrade YouTube video quality on mobile and the web to higher quality if your home/work internet speed allows it.
