Every Android phone comes with a video player. With the influx of movies and TV shows, modern users are now looking for a video player with 4K playback, subtitle support, wider video format support, and touch controls. Fortunately, we have a few options, such as VLC, MX Player, and XPlayer. Below, we'll compare MX Player vs. XPlayer: Which is the best 4K video and music player for Android?
MX Player is one of the most popular video players on the Play Store Which was recently purchased by Times Internet for $140 million.
XPlayer, on the other hand, is constantly gaining users, thanks to its user-friendly interface which is a good example of why it has so many users.

1. User Interface Design
Both MX Player and XPlayer have a simple user interface that's easy to navigate and easy to use. When you open MX Player, you'll see four self-explanatory tabs at the bottom. You can quickly access your files, local videos and music supported by MX Player (more on that later), and the Me tab, which is dedicated to settings.
XPlayer follows suit with just three tabs at the bottom. You can see the playlist option, which tells me they take music seriously. I've enabled dark mode on both apps, but you'll notice that XPlayer offers a true black theme, which is darker than MX Player.
2. Controls and gestures
Both MX Player and XPlayer come with several ways to control your video playback. You can rewind or fast-forward videos by swiping left or right on the screen on both apps. To access additional controls in MX Player, tap the screen once and tap the three-dot menu icon in the top right to reveal a drop-down menu.
You can control playback speed, subtitles, audio settings, and the sleep timer. MX Player has many settings that can't be changed, which is why it made sense to have a menu that includes them all. Swiping up and down on the right manages the volume, while swiping left adjusts the brightness. You can pinch to zoom in and out.
Notice the little arrow on the left? Tap it to reveal shortcuts like repeat, shuffle, and playback speed. I think they're more useful when watching random videos or short music videos than movies.
XPlayer offers the same design you see and love in MX Player. However, more options are available when you click the handy arrow icon on the left. Additional settings include a timer, sleep mode, and pop-up playback.
Similarly, the menu on the right will remind you of MX Player. The only difference seems to be the distinct placement of a few options. So what's the difference? Customizations.
MX Player lets you customize almost everything from the buttons you see on the screen to how your subtitles are displayed (alignment, size, scale, fonts).
You can even change the color of the progress bar from blue to something else. Change which buttons you want to see or not see under the Controls tab. Manage the font type, size, borders, and shadows under the Text tab, and much more.
To summarize, both MX Player and XPlayer have an identical design, but MX Player has more options and settings. On the other hand, we rarely go into these settings unless you like tinkering or are extremely fussy about things.
3. Video player
Both MX Player and XPlayer support hardware and software decoding. However, the former also supports HW+ (Hardware Plus) in addition to HW (Hardware) and SW (Software). This means that MX Player supports multiple file types, can increase the volume by up to 200% (or 30% instead of 15% for some smartphones), and improves video quality. HW+ also reduces lag in videos.
XPlayer lacks HW+ support, which means you can't increase the audio and video quality. MX Player also offers support for many other programs. Coding for CPU configurations Different ones like ARMv7, x86, etc.
XPlayer supports Chromecast, so you can stream content from your smartphone to a big screen. This is something I doubt MX Player will ever offer.
Finally, MX Player supports network streaming, which means you can enter an IP address to connect to a local server and play video and audio from there. XPlayer lacks this useful feature, which I often use when watching online events.
4. Play audio
While most of us have moved to streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music, some of us still need a music player to listen to the collection of songs we all enjoy. MX Player didn't recognize the song I had in my local folders. That's because MX Player streams songs from Gaana.com. More on that in the next point.
XPlayer is a basic music player. It won't categorize music by genre or artist. It also scanned my call logs and listed all the calls I'd recorded on my smartphone—don't judge me, it's for security purposes. On the plus side, you can create playlists. 5. Content, content, content
This is where MX Player differs from every other video player on the Android market. As mentioned earlier, MX Player streams songs from Gaana, an app owned by Times Internet.
The Videos tab is even more impressive. You can watch movies, news, music videos, and even original web series created by MX Player for its platform—all for free.
All of MXPlayer's features and content are free, except for the presence of ads everywhere. Even when you pause a video being saved on your device, an ad will immediately appear. You can upgrade with a one-time in-app purchase of $5.99 to remove ads. With all the music and video content MX Player offers, it's not a smart program.
XPlayer also displays ads, but they're not obtrusive. There's a handy button you can click to view ads, voluntarily, and support the development team. A much better approach. There's a $4.99 in-app purchase to remove ads.
The tenth factor
MX Player is the clear winner here. Not only does it have more options and settings, but it also creates its own web series that aren't available anywhere else. Additionally, you can stream songs from Gaana. HW+ supports codecs.
