However, while the Apple Watch displays all your activities in detail, it doesn't show you your step count. In this article, we'll show you how to display steps on your Apple Watch face.
This is a bit of a drawback, especially if you like to see all your activities at a glance by raising your wrist. Of course, you could tap on the ring complications, but that would be an extra step, right?
Fortunately, there's an easy way out, and in this post, we'll show you how to display steps on your Apple Watch face.
How to display steps on the Apple Watch face
Since there's no native method, we'll have to resort to a third-party app. There are quite a few pedometer apps that support complications. Unfortunately, most of these are paid. The good news is that a few free apps let you easily display steps on your Apple Watch face.
There are two broad steps to this. The first involves finding the right watch face to accommodate all your data. The second is adding complications to your watch face.
Now that's settled, let's see how to do it.
Find the right watch face
Step 1: Go to the Watch app on your phone and tap Face Gallery. Scroll down until you see the options for Activity, GMT, or Infographics.
So, the idea here is to choose a watch face with the most complications, such as those under Modular, Modular Compact, or Infographics. The idea is to get the most information in the shortest amount of time.
Step 2: After selecting a watch face, tap Add to add it to your collection.
Step 3: Go to the My Watch tab, select the watch face, and tap Set as current Watch Face.
Now, half the river has been crossed. Let's cross the other half.
Find a pedometer app with complexity
Step 1: On your iPhone, download and install the app called Duffy.
This app provides a quick overview of your daily steps, among other features. It pulls the necessary information from your Apple Watch and displays it accordingly.
Next, open the Duffy app to see if it displays the correct number of chapters.
Step 2: On your watch, long press the watch face to go into edit mode.
Swipe left to go to the Complications page. Once inside, tap a location and select Duffy from the list of supported apps.
Alternatively, you can select the complication from the Watch Face page on the Watch app, as shown below.
From now on, your watch will show you your current step count at a glance. Again, it's helpful to have an activity-based watch face because it displays your step count.
In our case, we used Custom watch face from Facer This face shows the steps loud and clear.
Davi has its limitations. First, the steps aren't updated in real time, and they take a bit of time to update as you walk. This can be annoying, but on the upside, you can get a rough estimate of your step count at a glance.
However, Duffy doesn't just show you your steps on your watch. For example, it also shows you a weekly overview and your past data.
What's more, you can also change goals. Additionally, when you complete your goals, this pedometer app also rewards you with great little prizes.
Duffy isn't the only pedometer app for iPhone and Apple Watch. Other apps like Pedometer++, Stepwise Pedometer, and StepsApps let you see your step count at a glance.
We tried StepsApps but found it difficult to navigate through all the different permissions.
From this standpoint, Duffy is simple and easy to use. You only need to grant permission once, and the app takes care of the rest.
Step up
If you're not comfortable installing a third-party app, there's a native way to easily count steps. However, there's a major caveat: the step count won't be displayed on your Apple Watch face. Tap the Activity rings on your watch and scroll down to see your step count.
However, the step count on the watch face makes it very convenient to check.
